The concept behind the prize is to reward the best 15-minute art talk given by a university student from one of the top five Australian Universities, in front of a jury composed of leading Australian arts professionals. Art students have been selected through a three stage process and each university champions will participate in the Grand Final on Wednesday 23rd of February from 5:30 to 9pm at the Art Gallery of NSW. The Grand Final will provide some of the most engaging art talks in he country.
The 2022 theme of the event is the “Influence of Matisse on Australian Art” and is largely inspired by the current Matisse exhibition Life & Spirit, Masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou, Paris, at the Art Gallery of NSW in Sydney, 20 November 2021- 13March 2022.
This competition and the prizes awarded are designed to provide unique opportunities to university art students. Superb prizes are on offer and include:
- A trip to Paris to meet the curators of the Pompidou Centre and any other Paris-based art professionals that the winner would desire to meet
- Art history classes at The Ecole du Louvre
- A mentoring session with President of the jury, Art Gallery of NSW Deputy Director and Director of Collections, Maud Page
- A private tour of the Matisse Life & Spirit exhibition, French Classes with Alliances Francaises of Melbourne, Sydney & Canberra…
The Grand Final Jury includes Barbara Moore, Biennale of Sydney, CEO, Professor Roger Benjamin, University of Sydney, international Matisse expert, Jackie Dunn, AGNSW, Special Exhibitions Curator.
